IIC Congress 2006 - 'The Object in Context: Crossing Conservation Boundaries'

Registration is now open for IIC's twenty-first international Congress, which will take place in Munich, southern Germany, 28 August -1 September 2006. Full details are available at www.iiconservation.org or www.doernerinstitut.de
Every culturally important object has been created, used, preserved and displayed in specific circumstances, and these contribute to an object's current appearance and , offering insights into the making and meaning of those objects. Exploring and revealing these meanings is at the heart of conservation. This exciting topic brings contributions from a wide range of disciplines to bear on conservation issues and the Congress will thus, we hope, appeal to a broad range of disciplines, for example; including art and art history, archaeology, architecture, collections management, cultural and social history, scientific research and social anthropology. The conference congress will promotes the use of new primary documentary material and sources, including patents, travel literature, scientific recipes and interviews with artists or craftsmen.
The congress will take place at the Auditorium Maximum of the Technical University of Munich, Germany. Linked event - the WISSENSSPEICHER network
Linked to the Congress itself is a network of small exhibitions across Munich dedicated to conservation, restoration and research questions, "WISSENSSPEICHER: Conservation, Restoration and Research in Munich". This unique joint event, which will run from July 2006 to January 2007, includes the Doerner Institut and twenty other Munich museums, collections and institutions which It will aim to show reveal the importance pivotal role of conservation, restoration and research work, and the many achievements of the heritage bodies in Munich, to the public, while complementing the theme of the Congress.
