"
Le sport : de l' archive a l' histoire" : colloque
international le 8 juin a Paris et le 9
juin 2005 a Roubaix, France
The Centre for the Archives of the World
of Work (National Archives) and the Centre for History of
the National Foundation for Political Sciences (Sciences-Po)
have organised an international conference on 8 June in Paris
and 9 June in Roubaix, entitled "Sport
: from archive to history". Approximately 30 participants,
made up of French and other archivists and historians will
address the singular nature of Sports Archives which are
often little known, whether they date back to the 19th century
or are already the archives of tomorrow. They exist in a
variety of the media – files, printed matter and publications,
documentation, iconography, audiovisual records, oral surveys
; come from a variety of producers (institutional public
fonds and the private fonds of clubs) ; and are conserved
in a variety of places throughout France (fonds of National
dimensions, regional and local fonds). Historians will present
the state of the expanding field of research based on these
archives and archivists will discuss their assignments in
the French Archives, the associative structures or the International
Council on Archives which has just created a Section on the
Archives of Sport (ICA/SPO)- www.ica.org/spo - in August
2004 at its International Congress. Contacts:
