Sessions on sport archives
The International Society for the History of Physical Education and Sport
(ISHPES) and the International Sports Sociology Association (ISSA) are arranging a joint congress in Copenhagen, July 31st-August 5th. ICA/s section on sport archives (ICA/SPO) is participating in this congress in order to promote its activities by arranging 1-2 sessions on sport archives. Joint congress arranged by the international organisations of sport historians and sport sociologists.
SESSIONS ON SPORT ARCHIVES
1. Round table session with specialists from the archive and research fields, discussing the necessity of safeguarding sports documents of the past, the present and the future. Suggested topics to be discussed: general introduction on the necessity of saving sports documents, and presentation of different models in different countries (Sjoblom); responsibilities of records creators (sports organizations, institutions and individuals); challenges of the increasing impact and amount of electronic records; researchers views on how they themselves can influence sports organisations and institutions to safeguard their documents; researchers/ and archivists/ views on questions of appraisal (what will be relevant to document for future research on sport?)
2. Session for presentations of sports archives and sports documentation institutions, documentation projects, individual collections of relevance to sports historical research etc. (For instance: Presentation of ICA/SPO, its activities and aims (Sjoblom).
